Wir haben uns daran gewöhnt, dass am Ende alles gut wird. Aber was, wenn dieser lang eingeübte Glaubenssatz nicht auf den russischen Angriffskrieg gegen die Ukraine zutrifft? Man stelle sich vor, Russland gewinnt den Krieg – und damit hört es nicht auf. Angriffe auf das Baltikum folgen, es kommt zum Bündnisfall. Und ein unvorbereitetes und kriegsuntüchtiges Europa steht vor der Entscheidung, einen Atomkrieg zu riskieren ... Es ist nur ein hypothetisches Zukunftsszenario, das der Politikwissenschaftler und Militärexperte Carlo Masala in seinem Buch Wenn Russland gewinnt entwirft – aber es ist erschreckend realistisch. Indem er den Ernstfall minutiös durchdekliniert, zeigt Masala, was heute für die Sicherheit Europas auf dem Spiel steht und warum es jetzt an der Zeit ist, eine gemeinsame Strategie hinsichtlich der Bedrohung durch Russland zu entwickeln.
